Volvo And Uber Collaborated For Developing Next-gen Autonomous Driven Taxis

Two of the leading groups in the World’s automobile market are planning to work together to enhance automobile technology to a next level. Volvo, The Swedish premium cars manufacturing firm and Uber, world’s leading online transportation network company are about to join their forces to bring a new era of automobile industry by developing next-generation autonomous vehicles.

Both the companies have made an agreement to work together on this project which will help in developing latest technology based vehicles including fully autonomous driverless cars. Volvo will be manufacturing the base vehicles and the products will be purchased by Uber. The project is estimated to a combined cost USD 300 million (Rs. 1,895 crores) to both of the companies.

Next-generation Autonomous Car

Volvo and Uber will use same base vehicles to implement their own autonomous car strategies. By the following way, Uber will apply its self-developed autonomous driving systems to the base car. Meanwhile, Volvo also will add its own autonomous car strategies to the same base vehicle, which will involve fully autonomous driving.

The newly developed base cars by Volvo will be blessed with company’s fully modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which is one of the most advanced car architectures in the world and is adorning Volvo’s multiple award-winning XC90 SUV, S90 premium sedan and V90 premium estate as well. SPA technology has been developed in the company’s global industrial transformation programme started in 2010. This Volvo technology includes the outset for next-gen electrification and connectivity development as well as the latest autonomous driving technologies. These are supposed to be the unique and ravishing qualities which attracted Uber to Volvo. The project is supposed to take SPA technology to a more advanced level including all needed safety, redundancy and all of the other required features to bring a fully autonomous car on the road.

This alliance of both of the leading groups marks the beginning of a long-term industrial partnership.
