Finally, the wait is over! The Swedish auto giant Volvo has launched its much anticipated flagship sedan model in India, the S90. Having a perfect blend of uncompromising power, luxury and contemporary tech features, it will join the brand’s portfolio in the country that consists of S60, V40, V40 Cross Country, S60 Cross Country, XC60, and the XC90. Based on the company’s flexible Scalable Architecture Platform which also underpins the XC90 SUV, it will make you run for INR 53.5 Lakhs (Ex-showroom, Mumbai) as well as lock the horns with Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 that carries same SPA platform under its feet.
Among the list of several diesel engine options, the carmaker has offered only a D4 diesel engine at first while no such news about its D5 diesel motor, but is expected to be available later along with all-wheel drive setup. The specification of diesel guise includes a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder unit that generates 190 Bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. Further, the engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox in order to transmit the power to front wheels. Moreover, it also comes with three automatic driving modes namely Eco, Dynamic and Comfort – which change the behaviour of the model based on driver need.

The front of the car has been highlighted by Volvo’s signature element like Thor’s Hammer LED headlights with daytime running lights that also equipped on the XC90 SUV. To further enhance the appeal of the car, the automaker has also attached features like concave front grille with chrome accents, wide air dam and LED fog lamps. Moving to the side profile, you will get to see chrome highlights and also feel how long the S90 is. Being based on the same architecture, the S90 is slightly longer than the E-Class, BMW 5-Series and the Audi A6. the rear profile has been embellished with regular C-shaped tail and a well-sculpted boot-lid.
Dimensionally, the new Volvo S90 measures 4963 mm in length, 1879 mm in width, 1443 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2941 mm. Also, it features a good cargo storage of 500 litres and a fuel tank of 55-litres capacity. It has a turning radius of 5.7 meters. As what Volvo is known for, no compromises have been made to the occupant's safety and offers numerous basic and advanced safety features. Much like its other siblings, it will also be sold through CBU route in the country.
The cabin of the Volvo S90 is a decent amalgamation of beige, brown and wood. Besides, the use of premium Nappa leather upholsteries over the seats and chrome strip across the dash making the cabin more eye catching. Moreover, the dash has been dominated by a large 9-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with navigation and Apple CarPlay support. Some of the other regular features are - Heads Up Display (HUD) unit, 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, electrically adjustable seats, 1400 watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system, etc.
