Kerala government has introduced 24x7 Women help-desk, for secure and convenient living of women who come to Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) particularly late night. The service will be started shortly.

Kerala State Women's Development Corporation (KSWDC) has made up a program to start help desk for women's safety, for those who have to travel late night due to their personal and professional affairs. The day-night help facility has been inaugurated with the full participation of city police.

"We are planning to open the help-desk, approved in the last budget, in April. It will be a joint initiative with the support of the city police," Asha, a project co-coordinator of KSWDC, said.

They will also provide lodging to necessitous women in the night hours. It will be mentioned as a refuge, which would lodge at least 50 women at a time. These operations are coordinated by women police at the center.

"The city police have offered to ensure the service of a woman officer. With the coming up of the help desk, a common number will be announced and needy women can contact the officer in it," she said.

"A vehicle will pick them up and take to the accommodation center during the late night hours," she said.

She said that help-desk would be situated near bus stands, airport or railway station.
