As of now another news is surfacing on-air that reportedly confirms that Facebook is planning to bring back its SMS functionality which it incorporated back in 2013, but had to revoke due to lack of user support. However, now it looks like the SMS support will again resurface as the social giant has started testing the same. As an add-on to the SMS service, the company has also added multiple account support exclusively for the Android platform users.

This has been even confirmed by the company in its statement that read, "At Messenger we are always trying to create new ways for people to communicate seamlessly with everyone. Right now, we're testing the ability for people to easily bring all their conversations - from SMS and Messenger - to one place. It's a really simple way to get, see and respond to all your SMS messages in just one app. By choosing to access your SMS messages in Messenger, they're right alongside all the other enhanced features that Messenger offers."

For the multiple accounts feature for Android users the company said, "Millions of people share phones with their family and friends. Until now, there hasn't been an easy way for people to access their individual Messenger accounts from shared devices. To address this, we've launched a feature on Android to enable multiple people to log in and use Messenger from a single phone."

The entire industry is looking forward to this functionality to get live but reports state that as of now Facebook is testing the SMS feature with limited Android users in the US and there is no confirmation as to when the feature will have a wider rollout. Though there are some users who claim of seeing a new SMS Settings pane in the Messenger app and are still able to use Messenger as main SMS client. In terms of UI, users see a purple colour for messages in SMS pane, whereas the text input box for SMS reads  Write an SMS message informing users that this is a regular text message box.
