HP Unveils Water-Resistant Phablet HP Elite x3

After keeping the entire gadget industry on a long wait, the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016) has finally begun and with this trade show the entire gadget industry is eagerly looking forward to unveiling of some of the best products from renowned tech-giants. As per the latest reports, American company Hewlett-Packard better known as HP has finally launched its flagship product HP Elite x3 with Windows 10 Mobile operating system onboard.

Unlike Lumia 650, the American company has decided to feature Continuum in Elite x3 and will also launch two separate docks, that will allow the smartphone to serve both as a laptop and a desktop depending on the user's requirement. HP first made a Windows Phone two years back that was purely a smartphone, however, with this launch, the company is also giving the features of a proper desktop.

In terms of specifications, the Elite x3 comes with a 5.96-inch AMOLED display that is further protected by a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It gives a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. The HP Elite x3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC clocked at 2.15GHz and is coupled with 4GB of RAM. It gives an inbuilt storage of 64GB with the option of inserting an external microSD card in case a user needs more storage. It sports a 15-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front facing camera. Other connectivity features include support for Wi-Fi MiMo 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, LTE, 3G, and other features.

Additionally, The handset is powered by a 4150mAh battery with support for wireless charging using Qi or PMA standard. It also comes with an IP67 rating, which provides the handset with the ability to withstand immersion in water for up to 1 metre for 30 minutes and also features a fingerprint scanner on the rear side. The company has launched this product keeping in mind it's enterprise customers as the smartphone is equipped with a large number of security features like fingerprint sensor, 256-bit key full disc encryption, and TPM 2.0.

The company says that it will ship the HP Elite x3 with two accessories: Desk Dock and Mobile Extender. The Display Dock, which comes with a DisplayPort, two USB Type-A, one USB Type-C, and RJ-45 ethernet port, allows the smartphone to serve as a desktop utilising Windows 10's Continuum feature.

The Mobile Extender, on the other hand, is a laptop at its core. It houses a battery, a 12.5-inch full-HD display giving a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, and a keyboard. It uses Elite x3 for the processing power similar to the NexDock, a laptop that utilises mini-PC, or selective Windows 10 Mobile handsets to convert them into a laptop.
