Reliance Jio Feature Phone Finally Launched For Beta Testing

Reliance released the first batch of JioPhone units, which has been made available on Tuesday, August 15 as beta trials of the 4G feature phone has scheduled. Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone at the reliance industries Annual General meeting 2017.This first batch of JioPhone has made available to a selected group of users to test it out before its public release in September-the handset is being beta tested by Jio employees for now.

The JioPhone units for beta trials will allow the company to identify and iron out software and hardware issues before it goes into the hands of the consumer in September. JioPhone has some special feature which has not been commonly seen on feature phones i.e. 4G VoLTE Internet, compatibility with multimedia apps, and option to mirror content to television sets through a proprietary cable. The JioPhone units for beta trials are likely to be available exclusively to Reliance Jio employees, and people in their network.

Jio Phone Booking Open online and offline

While the 4G feature phone will not be available until September for consumer use. Interested users can register their JioPhone unit online and offline on August 24.For offline registration, the consumer will have to visit their nearest Reliance Store on August 24 and provide a copy of your Aadhaar card to make the booking and only one unit will be sold against one Aadhaar number and it will be on first come, first serve basis. If you want to book multiple units then you will have to provide the GSTN or PAN details, to avoid fake registrations, a name of the company and e-mail address is also required. The user can even specify the number of units they want to buy. The consumer will have to pay the Rs. 1500 refundable security deposit for JioPhone only at the time of picking up the handset, not while booking.

Feature and specification of JioPhone

The Reliance Jio device phone comes with an alpha-numeric keypad, 2.4-inch display with QVGA screen, microSD card slot, torch light, FM radio.The customer will have to recharge with a Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan monthly pack of Rs.153, which will give them an unlimited voice calling facility, texts, high-speed data, and free access to all Jio apps for 28 days. The feature phone can connect to any television via proprietary cable. For connecting device to a television, users will have to recharge with the Rs. 309 per month pack.

The 4G feature handset will be equipped with NFC for digital payment that will be rolled out to users via OTA software upgrade. It will be a single SIM device which works only on 4G VoLTE networks. The handset supports voice command and 22 Indian languages. Additionally, the device will also come with panic button feature that is enabled when long pressing the number 5. While there is no confirmation on whether the handset will support WhatsApp or not, a browser and Facebook were spotted at the launch of the handset.
