Samsung Denied Any Note 7 Incidents in India

Reports of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone Galaxy Note 7 exploding came from across the world. On this, the company on Thursday stated that no incident of the handset had came in sight in India, as the company had not rolled out a single unit of the smartphone in the country.

A Samsung India spokesperson in a late-evening statement said, “We can confirm that there has been no incident with regard to Galaxy Note 7 in India. In fact, not a single unit of Galaxy Note 7 was sold in India”.

The statement followed a reply to the Lok Sabha by Jayant Sinha, Minister of state for Civil Aviation who said that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s battery let to smoke from a laptop bag, which was placed in the overhead baggage compartment of a flight from Singapore to Chennai in September.

The cabin crew, on September 23 observed smoke coming out from a mobile phone kept in a  laptop bag in the overhead baggage rack in the flight. According to sinha, proper actions were taken to control the situation and no harm or injury to any flight member was reported.

Sinha further added, “Matter was investigated by DGCA and during the investigation, it was observed that the damage to the battery of a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had led to the said occurrence”.
