According to a recently leaked report, Samsung may be planning to introduce a major upgrade in its next flagship, Galaxy 10. The new tech is expected to be announced on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the company’s Galaxy S series next year. The upgrade is likely to be inspired by Apple’s launch of iPhone X last year on its tenth anniversary with a major face ID feature.

Samsung is reportedly working on a new 3D sensing camera technology that would work as the base for a face recognition system much like Apple’s Face ID system. The new Galaxy S10 may be launched with the new tech, along with rumored under-display fingerprint sensors that the company is working on for some time now.

A rumored report which was published by South Korean website Bell claims that Samsung will introduce some “groundbreaking features” in the tenth generation of its Galaxy S flagship phones. The electronics company has reportedly tied up with Japanese module manufacturer Namuga and Israeli camera manufacturer Mantis Vision to realize the said technology. Even though the two companies, along with Samsung, have already started working on the project, they might not meet the deadline of the next year.

After the huge technology-evolution introduced by Apple, in the form of Face-ID, with its iPhone X, it was only natural for Samsung to come up with an equally competitive technology. The report published on the Bell website says that Samsung will definitely use the new technology in its upcoming flagship even if all requirements are not met by the time of the expected launching of the tenth generation Galaxy S flagship. The new 3D sensing tech may even be used as the marketing highlight of the S10 smartphone.

In addition, the South Korean company is also reportedly planning to introduce an under-display fingerprint sensor in its upcoming premium smartphone. The Vivo X20 Plus UD is the first and currently the only phone to have this feature, in Vivo X21 expected to be next in the line.

The Galaxy S10 may also feature advanced image sensors, which the company is working on to develop in partnership with Synaptics, Qualcomm, and Aegis Technologies.
