Microsoft to Sell Customized Windows 10 to Chinese Government Bodies as Part of C and M Joint Venture

Not much time has passed since the day when Microsoft collaborated with China as part of China's answer to Google in September, the reports now state that Microsoft is again trying to strengthen its position in the country, by providing customized Windows 10 directly to the Chinese Government. As per the new joint venture called the C&M Technologies, the company will license, deploy, manage and optimize a custom version of the operating system not only for government agencies but also for state-enterprises that deal majorly in infrastructure fields such as energy, telecommunications, and transportation.

The reports suggest that Microsoft is constantly working with the China Electronics Technology Group (CTEC) for making this joint venture a success. Both the parties signed a mutual consent for a partnership so as to allow Microsoft to solidify its foothold in China. The steady growth and lucrative dealings with huge Chinese companies such as Tencent, Lenovo, and Xiaomi over the past few years, has added cherry on the cake for the American company. However, post the NSA spying scandal, image of Microsoft has been hurt badly as now Chinese consumers look at foreign softwares as a way to spy on their activities and another huge problem that the company face is that most of the people still prefer using pirated version of Windows.

The approval of this new joint venture would act as a new beginning for Microsoft with respect to the Chinese government. Last year in 2014, the Chinese government launched an anti-monopoly against the company, that was further ignited when it banned the use of Windows 8 operating system by official agencies. The Government of China has spent hundreds of millions on purchasing licensed copies of Microsoft's operating system, constantly pushing for lower prices and better tech support, especially after Microsoft abandoned Windows XP, still widely used in the country. Looking at the wide usage of Windows XP in the country, the government tried an attempt to move away from the Windows completely by producing its own Windows XP clone, called NeoKylin.

The upcoming venture C&M Technologies, portrays a Win-Win position for both the parties as a custom version of Windows 10 for the Chinese government promises to provide a better support and will provide the support the government previously requested with patches and updates. Other than this, it will also take feedback from both the government and state-enterprises making notes as to what all new features the bodies require for proper functioning in return, Microsoft gets a way to regulate at least some of the use of Windows 10 in China, and a chance to start making more money off its product.
