Mozilla Now Offers 64-bit Firefox Client for Windows Users Promising Faster Execution and Better Security

After all these years, Mozilla has now officially released an update to its Firefox browser for Windows operating system as there was never a 64-bit version of Firefox until now for the desktop clients. Apart from desktop update, Mozilla has also updated its Android app adding several new features. All versions can now also choose a strict blocklist to improve the new Tracking Protection feature in Private Browsing that was introduced with Firefox v42. As far as Android app is concerned, it has been improved in terms of the reading list, accessibility features, and many others.

As per Mozilla, the new version, works successfully on or above Windows 7 OS that offers faster execution (as it can access hardware registers and instructions faster than ever before) and a better security. The other major addition in the new desktop client is the ability to choose a search engine from the address bar which Mozilla likes to call Awesome Bar. The company in its official statement said that - A 32-bit version of the client can only use 4GB of address space, which certainly isn't good enough for handling large Web applications. As our reliance on the cloud-based services continue to grow, and we continue to see the increased proliferation of 64-bit hardware and software both in the PC and mobile spheres, the 32-bit version would become obsolete technology in the coming years.

The Android app that has also been updated to version 43, now offers the ability to have tab audio indicators, i.e., the Users will now be able to know which tabs are producing sound the feature that was initially rolled out on the desktop client in Firefox v42. In addition to the above mentioned features, users can now also mark read/unread items in reading list section, include the URL of the webpage they are on when sharing specific text.

The updated browser allows users the option to block additional trackers with a 'strict' setting. As per the company's blog post - A basic protection list is on by default in Private Browsing with Tracking Protection and it shields against many ads, analytics and social trackers. If you want increased protection from tracking, Firefox now allows you to choose a 'strict' protection blocklist which will block additional content trackers, such as those often found in video, photo and embeddable content. Choosing this list comes with a tradeoff because Disconnect has received reports from users of some sites not working properly and in some cases being unusable, when this 'strict' list is used.

Despite all the new improvements and updates, Mozilla has also noted that the 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows currently offers limited support for plugins which can make some websites that need plugins to work incompatible with the new Web browser.
