Oledcomm Demonstrated Li-Fi Technology At MWC 2016

From the last few years, we've been hearing about a new technology dubbed as "Li-Fi", abbreviated as Light Fidelity. Now, firstly a question arise, What is Li-Fi? Actually, Li-Fi is a new speed wireless technology that conveys data in the same way as Wi-Fi does- but with the light. The Li-Fi uses a light pulse to transmit the information, instead of radio waves as like the Wi-Fi does.

Li-Fi technology 100 times Faster than Wi-Fi

The french-based startup company, Oledcomm demonstrated the technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016), the world's biggest mobile fair, in Barcelona. If your smartphone is connected to the web with just a lamp that is the promise of Li-Fi. This wireless technology is featuring Internet access 100 times faster than Wi-Fi.

The biggest advantage of this technology Li-Fi is its lightning speed. It can be able to access the internet speed up to 200Gbps while Wi-Fi is able to access the 1Gbps speed.

Laboratory tests have been shown theoretical speeds of over 200Gbps, that is fast enough to download the equivalent of 23DVDs in one second, the founder and head of Oledcomm, Suat Topsu said. "Li-Fi allows speeds that are 100 times faster than Wi-Fi" which uses radio waves to transmit data, he added.

As according to the analysts, the number of objects that are connected to the Internet will touch the feet of 50 million by 2020 and the spectrum which is used for radio waves in Wi-Fi turned into short supply. according to the researchers, Li-Fi is a viable alternative.

"We are going to connect our coffee machine, our washing machine, our tooth brush. But you can't have more than ten objects connected in Bluetooth or Wi-Fi without interference," said Topsu.

Deepak Solanki, the founder and chief executive of Estonian firm Velmenni which tested Li-Fi in an industrial space last year, told  he expected that "two years down the line the technology can be commercialised and people can see its use at different levels."
