WhatsApp Rolls Out Two-Step Verification Process For Android, Windows, iPhone Users

WhatsApp, the leading messaging application, after testing for several months, now finally has announced to roll out the two-step verification process (aka two-factor authentication) for all of its users across Windows, Android, and iOS platforms. Coming up to the process, in the verification, the user will have to provide a six digit passcode created by himself/herself via this application while registering your phone number with WhatsApp again.

To enable the new optional security feature, the user must go to WhatsApp > Settings > Account > Two-Step-Verification > Enable. After enabling the feature, users must have to enter their desired passcode and an optional e-mail address for recovery for their account in case they forget the passcode.

The company, on the FAQ page says for the feature, “This email address will allow WhatsApp to send you a link via email to disable two-step verification in case you ever forget your six-digit passcode, and also to help safeguard your account.”

According to the company, this new feature doesn’t verify the entered email to confirm its accuracy. Hence, it is highly recommended for every user to enter a genuine email address so that they do not end up getting their profile locked in case they forget the passcode.

Moreover, after getting the two-step-process enabled, the user will not be permitted to re-verify his/her number within last seven days of using WhatsApp without the passcode. It means, if you forget your passcode and didn’t enter a genuine email address, then you will not be able to re-verify on WhatsApp within seven days of last using it.

The company further added, “After these 7 days, your number will be permitted to re-verify on WhatsApp without your passcode, but you will lose all pending messages upon reverifying - they will be deleted. If your number is reverified on WhatsApp after 30 days of last using WhatsApp, and without your passcode, your account will be deleted and a new one will be created upon successfully re-verifying.”
