Maruti was founded in 1981 and earlier known as Maruti Udyog Ltd. It is a subsidiary of Japanese company Suzuki Motor Corporation which has 44% share of Indian car market till 2011. Maruti was renamed in 2007 as Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and its head office is located in New Delhi, India.
The company has launched a wide range of hatchback cars like Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star, Swift and Wagon-R etc. Its sedan range includes Dzire and SX4. Maruti sells approx 730,000 cars per year and it has acquired extremely large domestic market of the country. Recently in 2012, it has launched Alto 800 with fuel efficient engine that offers successful results.
