Jeep 551 SUV To Be Showcased At Sao Paulo Motor Show: India Launch In 2017

The all new Jeep 551 SUV has been rendered prior to its global launch at Sao Paulo Motor Show in November 2016. Based on the same small-wide front-wheel drive platform that underpins the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, this new 551 SUV will be produced and sold in the country sometime next year.

 Globally known as the C-SUV, the Jeep 551 will be slotted above the company’s smallest offering, the Renegade (Globally named as B-SUV), and will replace the Jeep Compass and Patriot. Both the vehicles are mechanical twins, but aimed at different set of buyers. While the new SUV 551 would be a soft-roader vehicle with the mild off-road capabilities.

The much notable features of this upcoming SUV include squared off wheel arches, mild body cladding, company’s signature radiator grill and curled window line. This new SUV is expected to be offered with two engine option: 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol and 2.0-litre Multijet ll diesel. The petrol engine is mated to a 6-Speed manual transmission and tuned to deliver a maximum power output of 164 hp, While the diesel engine is paired with a 9-Speed automatic transmission and produce a maximum power output of 170 hp. 

The new Jeep 551 SUV is expected to hit the left-hand drive markets first. The Jeep might launch this upcoming SUV in Brazil first, followed by China. By 2017, it would be built at Tata-Fiat JV plant in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. When launched it will take on the SUVs like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
