While the Indian market will witness the presence of the new Toyota Fortuner on November 7, the Japanese carmaker has already dropped a teaser image. Captioned with ‘The Only Eyes You’ll Stare Into’, the picture has got an eye of the visage, i.e. the headlamp of the SUV. The car has already started adorning the dealerships across the country. Based on an all-new TNGA platform underpinning the Innova Crysta, the model in question is extra stiffer and lighter.
Borrowing the powertrains from the recently launched Toyota Innova Crysta, the new Fortuner will have 2WD and 4WD drivetrain system choices. Specifically, the engine options include a brand new 160BHP, 2.4-litre GD and 177BHP, 2.8-litre GD diesel motors, accompanied by a 2.7-litre, 4 cylinder petrol trim. Transmission duties will be performed by a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
Both the ‘GD’ diesel engines- a 2.4 and a 2.8 litre gain Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC) and variable geometric turbocharger technologies. Among them, the small capacity unit returns a peak torque of 400NM and the bigger one returns 177BHP with 450NM manual and 400NM automatic transmission.

The 2016 India-bound Fortuner will be available in same 7 colors, which the other global variants have got. They include- Glacier White, Silver Sky, Eclipse Black, Crystal Pearl, Graphite, Phantom Brown, and Nebula Blue. Expect the price to be on an extra notch against the current model. It might be in the range of INR 28 lakh- INR 32 lakh (Ex-showroom).
