2017 Hyundai i30: Officially Unwrapped Prior to Paris Auto Show Debut

The all new 2017 Hyundai i30 has officially pulled off the covers ahead of its global premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show which will be held at the end of this month. First unveiled at Frankfurt motor show, the third generation Hyundai i30 will essentially be the hatchback version of the sixth generation Hyundai Elantra. Even in some global markets i.e. the US and Canada, the current generation i30 is being sold as the Elantra GT.

The much anticipated car from the South Korean auto manufacturer, the new i30 features a completely new design ideology which can be followed by the other upcoming Hyundai models. Longer, wider and shorter, this new hot-hatch has been designed, developed and manufactured in Europe.


It is 40mm longer, 15mm wider and 15mm shorter over its current running model. Now it measures 4,340mm in length, 1,795mm in width and 1,455mm in height, while the wheelbase remains true to its predecessor. The new i30 offers the class-leading boot space of 395 litres which can be further expanded up to 1,301-litres after folding the rear seats.

On the inside, the car features significant changes over the current running model, it gets an optional 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with iOS and Android connectivity, and TomTom live updates enabled navigation. An additional technology genius quality of the car is induction charging mat for smartphones.

Under the hood, the next-gen Hyundai i30 is expected to be offered in three petrol engine options, while the single diesel motor will come with three states of tune. Three petrol variants of the new i30 are as follow:
A 1.4-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces maximum power of 94 bhp and a peak torque of 99 Nm.
A 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo motor that churns out maximum power of 118 bhp and a peak torque of 171 Nm.
A 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine that pulls out the massive power of 138 bhp and a best in class torque of 242 Nm.
While both the above engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the last one will be offered with the choice of 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox.
On the Diesel front, the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder motor will be offered with following three different states of tunes:
94 bhp and 280 Nm with 6-speed manual gearbox
109 bhp and 280 Nm with 6-speed manual gearbox
134 bhp and 280 Nm (with 6-speed manual gearbox) or 300 Nm (with 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission)

Moving on the safety features, the third-gen Hyundai i30 is blessed with driver fatigue monitor with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, rear traffic alert in reverse gear, radar assisted cruise control, and blind spot monitor.

Considering the Indian market, the South Korean auto giant has not introduced any of the i30 generation, however, this third generation i30 was showcased in this year’s Delhi Auto Expo, but there are official words on bringing the car in India. Whereas, in the global market this newest Hyundai i30 will lock its horns with the likes of the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf.
