2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Launched in India, Starting at INR 5.45 Lakh

The countdown has been over! And the much awaited car of the year, the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire has finally been on sale in India from today at a starting price of INR 5.45 lakh. This is the third generation model featuring a completely new makeover from inside out, while appealing to a more premium audience. The Indo-Japanese auto giant has introduced the all new Dzire across four variant - L, V, Z and Z+, available in both petrol and diesel powertrains.

What are the Cuts and Adds in Measurement -
The all new sub-4 meter compact sedan is based on the same Heartech platform that also runs the carmaker’s one of the premium offerings, the current-gen Baleno hatch. Thanks to this lighter platform which helped the Dzire ditching a weight of 85 kg and 105 kg from its previous generation petrol and diesel models respectively.

Carrying forward similar length, the new Dzire is 40 mm wider and 40mm shorter than the previous generation model. It also gets an extended wheelbase by 20mm, leaving additional space inside the cabin. The boot space has now been increased by 60 litres to 376 litres.

The ground clearance is now decreased by 7 mm and stands at 163 mm. The cabin sounds more spacious with the 20 mm improvement in front shoulder and 30 mm in the rear row.

What’s new on the Looks -
Well, in a single word, A lot! A completely new design ideology has been carried out from head to tail of the car. With a bunch of styling cues and several added details, the segment leader Dzire has become more premium than before.

However, the design updates on the sub-4-meter sedan are borrowed from the next-gen Swift hatchback which was showcased in Geneva Motor Show in March this year and soon to be introduced for the Indian market as well.

The front fascia of the Dzire gets horizontal slats grille framed in hexagonal shaped and surrounded by the chrome, along with a revised bumper. To make it more upmarket, the carmaker added premium features like DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and the LED projector headlamps, however on the range topping variant only.

At the rear, the new high mounted boot grabs major attention. Overall, the rear fascia sounds more prominent with the flowing contour lines on the sides which further merge with the boot lid. The images give a hint of LED tail lamps. Another highlight of the new Dzire is the Shark-fin antenna.

Under the hood, it comes fitted with the same existing 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre diesel powertrains. However, both the engine options are offered with a choice of 5-speed manual and 5-Speed ASG (Auto Gear Shift) which can be availed on all variants except the base one. While the Petrol is tuned to produce a maximum power of 83 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm, the diesel churns out 75 PS of maximum power along with 190 Nm of maximum torque.

With the reduction in weight, the carmaker claims for an improved fuel mileage for both diesel and petrol variants. While the manual and automatic petrol versions return a fuel economy of 22.0 kmpl (boosted by 5.5 percent), the manual and automatic diesel versions deliver 28.4 kmpl (upped by 6.8 percent).

This is where the new Dzire takes a lead of miles from the outgoing model. The 2017 version of compact sedan is blessed with number of mid-class luxury details through inside out. On the exterior, it is equipped with LED projector headlamps, DRLs (Daytime Running Light), reverse parking sensors and camera.

Head inside, you will see Smart infotainment Display featuring built-in navigation and voice command supports with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, push button for engine start/stop, smart key, two-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, auto headlamps and electronically operable (adjustment and folding) wing mirrors.

On the safety terms, 2017 Dzire is a far cry from the current model. It is offered with standard kit across all variant which consists dual airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) with BA (Brake Assist), ISOFIX anchorages and, pretensioners & force limiters in the front seat belts.
