Although the sixth generation edition of the iconic Ford Mustang sports car merely couple of months old for the Indian auto segment, but the fastback muscle car has been available in other global markets since December 2014 and now, it is going to welcome a facelifted version of the same. According to a fresh report posted by Mustang6G forums hints a few new interesting details about the car including performance packages and new colors as well as supports talk of new transmission option.
Let’s first talk about the biggest change over the Ford Mustang here. As the report suggests, that the 2018 model finally ditch the current 3.7-litre V6 engine, leaving solely the EcoBoost 2.3-liter four-cylinder and 5.0-liter V-8 options for the Mustang lineup. This is being considered as the body type codes for the V6 engine variant emerge as invalid in the dealer computer.
Interestingly, the facelifted unit now looks almost certain to be offered with the 10-speed automatic transmission box designed by a joint effort of Ford and General Motors Company. A dual exhaust or an active exhaust system will also be there as an option, but it’s unclear to us on which variant or variants specifically.
As the rumors are breathing all around, the automaker is basically bringing the mid-cycle refresh for the car in order to make it more efficient so that it can get a head to head with the likes of Chevrolet Camaro and other closest rival. Keeping the same in mind, the automaker is also thinking of offering the option for MagneRide dampers on both the Mustang’s EcoBoost and GT trim levels. Albeit, such features are already underpinning the Mustang Shelby GT350 and Mustang Shelby GT350R.
Further the report also claim for the “Performance Package 2” along with the existing Performance Package on the Ford Mustang GT. While it is still in dark what this package will bring with itself but it is believed that it will carry some track focused packages to turn the said unit into something that takes on the likes of Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. On the color aspects, the 2018 Ford Mustang will receive two new color options apart from the standard that are Orange Fury and Royal Crimson.
Apart from these above-mentioned details, the car may also have some modification over its design. Some spied pictures of the same have also been caught on camera earlier. Disguised heavily around the corners, the test mule didn’t reveal any information except one that the 2018 facelift Mustang is in the pipeline. Besides, the heavy cladding over the grille, lightings units at the front fascia, front and rear bumpers are centralising the indications. Well, it’s too soon to pass any comment on the 2018 Ford Mustang model, but we could expect some official reports soon in the market. Stay tuned to have more details about the beast.
