Volvo will bring a fresh model to make its line-up updated this year with the expected XC40 model. The size of SUV is big according to the global aim and as mentioned by the name itself, it will be placed below the XC60 in the Volvo product range. The XC40 was first revealed as a concept about 2 years ago and with this model, the Swedish automaker enters the premium volumes world.
Concerning concept, the Volvo XC40 and Mercedes-Benz GLA have the same aim. Both are entry-level cars made to expand the brand to customers and provide them an acknowledgment of what to anticipate in an excessive form if they approach for the more costlier variants from the company. The GLA obtains the design specifications from the GLC SUV, but it is deducted to match the car size. Characteristic highlight takes chunky rear-end, two-slat avant-garde grille, chrome strips running through the middle and signature rectangular tail lamps.
The XC40 imitates the design philosophy from the bigger variant of it. The design language is a blend of traditional SUV and the sleek lines that determined the Volvo range in the last few years. Characteristic highlights take black cladding near the sickle-shaped vertical tail lamps and Thor hammer headlamps providing the signature look to the XC40. The company is introducing the XC40 with an R-design package from the starting.
The interior of the cars is very different. The cabin of the GLA depends on buttons and it is easily operable with them as well. The infotainment system takes a floating display whereas the instrument cluster obtains a full-color display concerning the information screen placed at the center.
The Volvo design language is minimalism and very convenient as the dashboard is very managed and obtains a massive touchscreen system that takes most of the space in the center console. The control button on infotainment is only visible. Concerning the dimensions, both the cars accommodate the same space and storage.
The XC40 obtains a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine in India. This engine is able to generate a peak power of 190bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm. AWD is available as a standard along with the 8-speed AT. The XC60 and the XC90 have air suspensions which will obtain a standard steel suspension.
The GLA heart is able to take a 2.2-litre four-cylinder generating a peak power of 134bhp and a peak torque of 300Nm and comes mated to a seven-speed manual running on the front wheels. The AWD powered variant only generates 168bhp/350Nm measures. The GLA can also get the petrol and the motor generates 181bhp/300Nm along with FWD.
The Volvo XC40 is likely to price similar to GLA but higher than the V40. The GLA is available at Rs. 31 lakhs to Rs. 38 lakhs.
