BMW M5 Competition Edition Launched in India, Priced at INR 1.55 Crore

BMW has launched the M5 Competition Edition in India. The performance-oriented M5 sedan is available on sale here at a hefty price tag of INR 1.55 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India). Since the new model hits the country through the CBU route. In BMW India’s lineup, the M5 Competition superseded the standard M5 model.

If the appearance of the M5 Competition is concerned, the performance sedan receives several M specific changes over the standard model which are gloss-black accents on the kidney grille, ORVMs, side air vents, rear diffuser and spoiler. In addition to this, the performance-oriented luxury sedan sports M-specific twin exhaust and M5 Competition badging as well. The new model’s outer profile is way far aggressive over the standard M5 whether it’s the front bumper, rear bumper or side-skirt. While a high-strength carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof is a specific fitment for the Competition Edition.

Under the hood, the M5 Competition is loaded with a V8, twin-turbocharged petrol engine which is claimed to develop 625hp of maximum power (around 25hp more over the standard M5 model available on sale in India) and 750Nm of peak torque. The power transmission here is managed via an 8-speed automatic gearbox configuration which is in association with BMW X6 xDrive 35i M Sport all-wheel-drive system. The M xDrive system comes with several modes like 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD which allows the driver to customize power transmission as per his suits.

If we talk about the interior of the M5 Competition, you will find more M-specific features rather than provided ones on its skin. This includes red start/stop button, leather multi-function steering wheel, sport seats, seat belts and pedals as well. Other than this, the features which are part of the package comprises a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay support, a 600W 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, the BMW head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as wireless charging.

In the performance sedan segment, the BMW M5 Competition seeks competition with the likes of Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC+.
