Brazil-Spec Renault Kwid Attains 3 Star Ratings in Latin NCAP Crash Test

In the latest conducted Latin NCAP’s (New Car Assessment Program) crash tests, the Brazil-spec Kwid that is also on sale in South-America scored 3-star ratings both for adult and child protection. In contrast to this, the India-spec Renault Kwid had scored an abysmal one-star rating in Global NCAP’s test results post structural improvements were made over the hatchback model tested during the May 2016 tests with the zero-star rating.

According to the Latin NCAP press release, the Renault Kwid’s model for the Latin American market is much more a better option in terms of structural strength and safety performance as compared to the Indian bound version. On the safety front, the Kwid is not the only hatch in the segment with a poor rating. Various other cars in the entry-level segment such as the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon as well are also not safe in perspective of global NCAP ratings.

If the difference between the Brazil-spec Kwid and the India-spec Kwid are considered, the Brazil-spec model comes packed with the safety features such as four airbags (dual front and side thorax airbags), ABS(anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution). While the India-spec model comes with a single driver airbag that is also an optional fitment. Other than this, the advanced features of ABS+EBD and multiple airbags are not in the features list.
