Ford EcoSport Reported as India Most Exported Car in FY 2016

Hyundai Motor India, has successfully placed its two new products namely, Xcent and Creta in the list of top ten most exported cars from India in the FY 2015-16. The automaker has registered a downfall in the exports in the last consecutive years as per the reports. The data published by the Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM) reveals that the models named, Grand i10, Xcent, i10, and Creta are present in the list of most exported cars in this financial year.

Meanwhile, Ford EcoSport, which is getting a great competition with the domestic market with the prominent rivals such as Vitara Brezza and Creta has topped the list of the most exported car in the FY 2016. According to the fresh reports, the american automaker has successfully exported 83,325 units in FY16, while in the previous fiscal it managed to export 55,178 units. The company has also registered a growth of 51 percent. Previous year, Ford EcoSport was at the fourth position in the list of the most exported cars from India.

Car Units Exported in FY16

We see that somehow the domestic sales of the Ford EcoSport would get improved as the automaker has adjusted the price by cutting it up to one Lacs. It has been receiving a healthy competition with the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the domestic market. To be noted, EcoSport has overshadowed the Maruti Alto, which marked the highest export figure in the last fiscal. Segment-wise, the A-segment car’s exports went up to 73% from 31,594 units (FY15) and 54,656 units in FY16. The major cause of the impressive growth is said to be the changes that have been made in the trade policy of Sri Lanka, which become favourable for the small cars.

It is expected that by the next year, the domestic sales is likely to improve and the EcoSport export can witness soe me low. By next year, the company will relocates the domestic plant located in chennai to the Craiova Assembly Plant in Romania in order to manufacture Euro-spec models. The Indian plant will also start exporting the EcoSport models to the US, as the country is dominated by the crossover and SUV market. USA is also known as the world's second largest market for the crossovers and SUVs.

By the coming years, the discontinuation of the Euro-spec EcoSport is likely to hamper the North American exports, but if the Indian plant be looked for producing better quality, it can be altered.
