Jeep Compass Launched in India at Rs 14.95 Lakh

The least expensive SUV offering from the American carmaker, the Jeep Compass has finally been launched in India at an introductory price sticker of INR 14.95 lakh for the entry level Sport petrol variant. While the top end diesel variant of the same will make you spend a total of INR 20.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Labeled with the title of brand’s first product manufactured in India, the Jeep Compass will also be supplied to the right-hand drive markets as well. The Jeep Compass is being offered in three variants of Sport, Longitude, and Limited in both diesel and petrol engine options.

Design-wise, the compact SUV which shares its styling cues from the premium Grand Cherokee SUV, follows the butch styling and iconic Jeep design with a whiff of freshness in the segment. At the skin, the trademarked Jeep grille, accentuated wheel arches, and the LED treatment are the most impressive from all the embellished features which include projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED headlamps, LED tail lights, all new alloy wheels and the five distinct paint options for a youthful appearance on the SUV. The color range will include Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, Hydro Blue, Vocal White and Hip Hop Black.

Well inside the cabin, the Jeep Compass comes equipped with smart white leather upholstered seats that are extended to the door as well. While, the neatly placed dashboard is simple and functional, yet elegant in appearance. The center console consists of a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The electronic package on the compass gets the assistance of height adjustable driver's seat, electronic parking assists, frequency sensing damping technology and a lot more.

Under the hood, the offered engine options encompass both the diesel and petrol engines. The 1.4-litre Multi-Air Turbo petrol engine churns out 160bhp of maximum power along with 250Nm peak torque through the mated a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. While the 2-litre Multijet oil burner has been tuned to develop 170 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque from a mated 6-speed manual gearbox. Currently, the diesel engine variants are only being provided with the manual gearbox transmission. The automatic transmission is expected in the near future.

The official bookings for the Compass were started on June 20 this year, and with the whopping initial response, the compact SUV managed to receive over 1000 bookings in the first three days and 5000 bookings till date. At the rivalry front, it will go in direct competition with the rivals in the segment the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V.
