Jeep to introduce Next-gen Renegade in India in 2022

The Compass, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler form the present line-up of Jeep in India. By 2020, a-sub-four-metre competitor to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will be introduced by the American SUV brand and by 2021 a seven-seat Compass-based SUV will be introduced. The present Renegade which is the smallest offering by Jeep in foreign markets will most probably not come to India.

On the other hand, Jeep is all set to bring the next-gen Renegade to the Indian market in 2022, after the arrival of sub-four-metre SUV and the seven-seat SUV. This next-gen Renegade will cost competitively and it seems that it will compete with the rival Hyundai Creta whose price is Rs 9.50-15.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The newer variant is also expected to be launched in other right-hand-drive markets, which will drive boost in the sales bringing prices down for the company.

It has not been confirmed yet whether for India, the new Renegade will have the 1.4-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel powertrains same as the Compass. Even the 6-speed manual and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options are same for both the SUVs.

In addition to the seven seat and sub-four-metre SUVs, the Jeep is all set to launch two of its other models in India in 2019 - the next-generation Wrangler and the Compass Trailhawk (which will finally add a diesel-AT to the Compass range).
