Kawasaki to Launch Single-cylinder Z250SL by The End of 2015

During the launching ceremony of the Kawasaki Ninja H2, the company has made an announcement that the firm will be expanding its Indian product lineup with the introduction of three new motorcycles. Out of these three, one is Kawasaki Z250SL, which is a quarter-liter street fighter. According to the recent report of Autocar, the Japanese two-wheeler maker is planning to launch its Z250SL in the country by the end of the current year. It would be the cheapest motorcycle of Kawasaki in the country that is featured with a single-cylinder motor, which is the first in Kawasaki stable. The firm will be sold both the Z250 and Z250SL simultaneously. Furthermore, unlike the Z250, the Z250SL is powered by the same 249cc engine displacement.

A source stated the Autocar that the components such as handlebars, clutch plates, front and rear suspensions, wheels, tyres, head and tail-lamps, electrical switches, switch housings, radiator fans and other similar parts may be locally sourced for the Z250SL, while the powertrain and its components will be brought from Thailand but the company is planning to localise this model to make it cost effective. The motorcycle would be locally manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant.

In terms of technical specifications, the Z250SL uses a single cylinder and liquid-cooled motor, carrying an engine displacement of 249cc. The fuel injection motor returns 28 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque. Whereas, the Z250 is powered by the 249cc, liquid-cooled and parallel twin engine which make it able to deliver 32 PS of power and 21 Nm of torque.

The Kawasaki Z250SL has several existing and upcoming rivals such as Benelli TNT25, KTM Duke 200, CBR 250R and upcoming Hero HX250R. The naked street-fighter will be launched in the country carrying an expected price tag of Rs 2 Lacs (Ex-Showroom).
