The prices of upcoming SUV Land Rover Discovery Sport from Jaguar are out much before its scheduled launch on September 2. The base spec of this model is going to be introduced at INR 46.3 Lacs (ex-showroom) while its on-road price will reach upto 50.7 Lacs. In addition to this, the top spec will be available with a price tag of INR 54.2 Lacs. If these details turn out to be true, this car will be the most affordable vehicle in India in its segment. The company is already started the pre-booking procedure and there is even a waiting period of six months in several cities.
Based on iQ architecture, this model will make extensive use of aluminium and hence will be lighter in weight than the existing model. Discussing the dimensions, its length will measure 4,599 mm along with the width of 2,173 mm. Moreover, it will stand 1,724 mm tall with the wheelbase amounting to 2,741 mm.
For Europe, the upcoming model is powered by a 2-litre Ingenium diesel motor, but for India it will be equipped with a 2.2 litre unit. This powertrain that is also configured in the current version, generates power in two modes including 147 Bhp and 187Bhp. For transmission, the engine is coupled with a nine-speed automatic setup that transmits power to all the four wheels.
Housing a seven-seat configuration, the car gets a sliding second row along side a third row, which is optional. The cabin will boast of an 8-inch infotainment facility with touchscreen interface and some other important automatic features.
Discovery Sport will be assembled locally in India at company's Pune facility and hence will be sold as a CKD unit. The upcoming vehicle will take on the rival models such as Mercedes-Benz M Class, BMW X3, Volvo XC60.
