Mahindra to Launch Petro-Powered XUV500 Soon

Mahindra, one of the largest manufacturers by production in India, is all set to introduce a petrol iteration of the XUV500 in its existing lineup, soon. As per the media reports, a 2.2-litre petrol engine, which is based on the same mHawk diesel mill that powers the current XUV500 model, is under work.

It is not the first time when reports suggesting Mahindra developing a petrol unit for its full-size SUVs including the XUV500 and Scorpio have surfaced. Earlier than this, the reports that Mahindra investing a huge amount of INR 1,000 crore for the development of petrol engines have emerged in February last year. While, early this year, the company had indicated at bringing the petrol-powered XUV500, followed by Scorpio. However, the introduction of Scorpio petrol will depend on the market response for the XUV500 petrol.

Well, the engine details for an all-new 2.2-litre petrol engine is not officially revealed yet. Though, the engine is expected to be offered with both the manual and an automatic transmission. Furthermore, the new G-spec variant in the XUV500 lineup is also expected to feature the petrol unit. In addition to that, two more petrol units-1.5L and 1.6L are also in talks to be produced parallel. Currently, the 1.2L mFalcon G80, which powers sub compact SUV, KUV100, is a single petrol unit in the Mahindra’s lineup. As a step towards petrol powered vehicles, the company is seeking to offer all its products with petrol option by starting 2018.

If the petrol powered Mahindra XUV500 is concerned, the test mule has been snapped several times performing test rounds. Recently, an LHD version was caught testing in Dubai, it could be the Mahindra XUV500 petrol to launch soon in India.
