Engine Details -
The major update lies beneath the hood of the car. With the launch of Baleno RS, the carmaker will introduce an all new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine. Fitted under the bonnet of the Baleno RS, it is a detuned version of the one which is currently being offered with the Baleno in some international markets.
Although it makes 111 hp on the global variants, for the Indian market will be good for the 102 hp of the maximum power along with the peak torque of 150 Nm.
Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox as a standard, while no option for the automatic as of now. The track-oriented Baleno RS will also be fitted with disc brake at all four wheels.
Price and Competition -
Being a more powerful version of the standard version, the Baleno RS will carry a slightly premium price tag over the outgoing Alpha trim. Though, it’s not certain yet how premium will it be.
On the rivals, the Baleno RS will register the carmaker’s entry into the performance-based hatchback segment which already has the Volkswagen Polo GT and the Fiat Punto Evo Abarth - the most powerful car in the segment.
