Maruti Suzuki to Bring a New Rival for Renault Kwid

Maruti is the only company in India, which enjoys favourable sales with most of its products present in the lineup. Whether it's Swift, Baleno or S-Cross, each and every model has made a special place in the customers' hearts. However, the Alto 800 has been lately facing a difficult time since Renault Kwid has come in the picture. As a result, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly looking for a rescue plan.

As per the recent reports, the automaker may soon come up with a new offering in the entry-level hatchback segment. Interestingly, the company enjoys 35% of its sales from the hatchback segment and hence it's high time for the brand to strengthen its position, before any other rival jumps in and creates trouble.

Details on: Maruti Alto 800

Talking about Kwid, we all are familiar with the positive response that it has been getting in the Indian market. Bookings have crossed the mark of 85,000 units and approx 25,000 units have been sold since the car got launched. This is a major reason for Maruti facing a decline of 4.3% in its sales for the hatchback segment which currently holds Alto and Wagon R as its key players.

Moreover, Renault is also coming up with an AMT version that was showcased at Auto Expo 2016, which could have prompted Maruti to think about introducing a new offering in this segment. The MD and CEO of MSIL, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa told Financial Express, “Reviewing the market and offerings we are developing a new product for that segment. Already we are planning a product but we have to review the market and decide which product and which kind of model.”
