Renault Working on Captur Based SUV for India

Renault is reportedly working on a new SUV with 7-seat configuration and it will be positioned above Duster. As we all know, Duster is a prominent player in its segment, particularly in India and the automaker is counting on this upcoming model to do some similar kind of magic. The vehicle is codenamed as HHA and will be introduced as a major contender for the Mahindra XUV500, which is not going to be easy at all. Besides, models like S-Cross, Hyundai Creta and the soon-to-be-launched Honda BR-V could also get their positions in danger.

The production is anticipated to start from the second half of next year at Renault's facility in Avtoframos, Russia. The target market includes countries like Russia, Brazil and India. Talking about the looks, the design cues will be derived from Captur, whereas it will be underpinned by the same platform that is utilised in the Duster model. As of now, it is known that this car will be featuring a longer wheelbase than the Duster.

Moving on to the engine lineup, it may be the same that is found in Duster including a 1.6 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel motor. The former pumps out 102.53 Bhp of power and 148 Nm of torque, while the latter is good enough top develop power amounting to 108.45 Bhp and 245 Nm of peak torque. In Europe, it could get an FWD mechanism, but the Russian spec model is likely to be equipped with an AWD setup.
