Retrofitting CNG Kits Prohibited by Delhi Govt. in In-use Cars

Delhi government, on a strict note, has forbidden the retrofitting of CNG conversion kits in 'In-use' cars in order to maintain the safety of the car owners. The passengers will no longer be allowed to include CNG conversion kits in their cars plus the authorized as well as unauthorized dealers are not going to take orders for the new CNG kits from now onwards.

According to the State Transport Department, various already available CNG conversion kits in the market are unverified by the authorities. These unapproved kits add up the risk factor in cars as they can catch fire instantly due to the flammable nature and consequently prove to be dangerous that may affect the lives of the passengers. To stop the use of these unsafe CNG kits is what the state government is trying to focus upon. It has been ordered to all the Motor Licensing Officers (MLO) that the registration of those vehicles shouldn't go ahead anymore.

The ban is not going to stop until a complete inquiry about the matter is done, stated by the state government. However, the cars that are coming directly from the manufacturer with authorized CNG kits won't be affected by this ban.

A couple of days before, the government has launched CNG kits for two-wheelers powered by the pilot programme in Delhi. It involved 50 Activa scooters fitted with CNG kits, which were ARAI approved. The initiative is a first move that incorporate CNG powered scooters in the country.
