Sales Report: Renault Kwid surpasses Maruti Swift In June 2016

The Renault Kwid is a runaway success for the French automaker, since its launch in September 2015. The Kwid sales garners around 61,000 units in India since launch altogether with the 1.25 lakh bookings. Keeping SUV stance, the compact hatchback Kwid surprisingly managed to surpass the bestseller Maruti Suzuki’s hatch Swift with a slight margin in June 2016 sales for the first time.

On figures, Renault has sold 9,549 units that is exceeded around 426 units from the recorded 9,033 units of the Maruti Swift. Here are some reason that has been highlighted after a keen observation. The barriers not only affected the hatch Swift sales but also shaken the sales figures of top sellers like Alto and Dzire. The major issue is the shutdown of Maruti’s key supplier facility for some duration to recover the damage from the break out fire incident.

Another reason is the cannibalization between the two hatch, Swift and Baleno. The introduction of Baleno in the premium hatchback segment also reduces the sales of ever demanding Swift in the Indian market.
