Tata Kite 5 Concept Car Named as Tata Tigor

For the past couple of months, speculation was all around that the upcoming Tata Kite 5 compact sedan to be christened as Viago or Altigo. According to these rumors, the automaker wanted to end the name of this car with ‘go’ in line with the recently launched hatchback Tiago’s name. There was also a name “Tigor” mentioned in many reports. Well, putting an end to all these assumptions, Tata Motors, today in a press release confirmed that the Kite 5 Compact sedan will be christened as Tata TIGOR.

Announcing the name Tata Tigor, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata Tigor which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata Tigor makes it India's 1st 'Styleback'. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the 'Styleback' on our customers.

Tata Kite 5 compact at the 2016 auto expo

Based on the company’s same IMPACT design language, which underpins the Tiago hatch and Hexa SUV, the Tigor compact sedan first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. According to Tata Motors, “The Tata Tigor is the next offering of the IMPACT design language and is targeted at young, talented and confident individuals who express their individuality with a unique style of their own.”

On the mechanical front, the Tata Tigor will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The former will be powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder unit, generating 83.5 bhp of maximum power complemented with 114 Nm of torque. Whereas the latter will be powered by a 1.5-litre three cylinder turbocharged mill, producing 69 bhp of power with 140 Nm of torque. Both mills will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while an automatic could join later.

Upon launch, the Tigor will take on the likes of Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Volkswagen Ameo which fit in the same segment.
