As of now, the Tesla Model product lineup consists of the Model X and the 3, and it is believed that the Model Y will join their sibling by late 2019 or in 2020. Earlier, rumors around the corners were this imminent vehicle will share the platform of the existing Model 3 vehicle in the lineup. But,  Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla has confirmed that it will be based on an all-new platform and be powered by a battery unit in place of being used 12V lead-acid battery on other Tesla cars. With this new chassis and battery, the harnessing between the battery and the powertrain will be lowered down. Altogether, it will help in boost up the production process, Musk mentioned.

However, the teaser image of the Tesla Model Y has surfaced yet, there isn't much to explain about the forthcoming SUV, apart from the missed out exterior mirrors. Rumors suggest Tesla could be working on to create a substitute for those. As earlier, when Tesla tried the same on its Model X, the car maker did not get the permission to bring it in the market ready model. But now, expectations are, the Model Y will embellish an improved illustration of the same technology.

Moreover, the information that came out from the CEO, Musk is that the Tesla is looking forward to adding around 10-20 new locations for its Gigafactory. And that too, for ramping up production capacity of the current portfolio as well as to manufacture new Tesla Model Y. However, the propeller battery will be developed at the Gigafactory 1 in Nevada. We believe, the Model Y will be as popular as the Model 3, so the chances are it will also be priced in the same range of the Tesla Model 3.
