India-Spec New Toyota Camry To Launch In 2019

The Toyota Camry has completed six years in India and now it is ready for the eight-gen Camry to launch in India by 2019. It goes out of Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) and uses the GA-K platform which is shared by the new Lexus ES 300h. The new model is lower, wider and longer than the existing variant, and the length is also improved by 50mm, which will create more room for the spacious cabin. 

Outside, the Camry has a ‘Keen Look’ design language. It has a large air dam, a grille with headlamps, V-shaped element up front, prominent creases to sides, a raised boot lip adds glamour to the new Camry and making it the most aggressive-looking Camry.

Inside the cabin, it gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a 10-inch head-up color display, the infotainment system, a sweeping design dashboard, and a 7.0-inch multi-information display. Further, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, a nine-speaker JBL audio system, more soft-touch materials, cooled seats and electrically reclining backrests are also part of the feature list.

The 8th-gen Camry will be available in a hybrid as well as standard form. The engine is also updated with a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine generating an output of 176hp/221Nm. The petrol powertrain is combined with a 118hp (88kW) electric motor, generating an output of 208hp. The company also claims about the reduced energy losses with more efficient hybrid powertrain system.

The standard version takes a new eight-speed gearbox and a six-step CVT comes with paddleshifters considering the hybrid model. It will also come along with four driving modes including EV, Sport, Eco and Normal. Further, the Auto Glide Control coasting characteristics enhance the fuel efficiency. 

Concerning safety, it comes with 10 airbags, pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, steering assist with lane departure alert and pedestrian detection. 

With the phase 2nd launch of the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) scheme, it will create relief to some hybrid vehicles, the new Hybrid version of Camry is expected to be priced higher than the standard model. The new Camry is expected to launch in India around 2019 with a price tag of Rs. 32 lakh for standard trim, whereas the hybrid variant is expected to come with a difference of Rs 5-6 lakh more or possibly with Rs. 38 lakh in India.
