Toyota To Manufacture Innova Crysta Petrol Engine in India

Since it took a long while to ban the heavy diesel run cars in the Delhi NCR Region, the automakers found it hard to market the cars that lie above 2000 cc and run on diesel. Recently, Toyota launched its new Innova Crysta at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company decided to bring the petrol version to the MPV at earliest.

Back in 2003, Toyota introduced Innova in both petrol and diesel variants but unfortunately, the petrol variant didn’t do well. So, the company decided to discontinue it. As of now, the automaker will once again introduce the Innova Crysta model in both variants and the petrol version will be sold in the Delhi NCR region.

Looking to the diesel ban and the rise in the pollution level in the capital, the Government will implement more strict emission rules on heavy vehicles by the year 2020. Despite all the struggle to uplift the ban, the automakers failed to convince the authority. So, the automakers decided to introduce low emission vehicles in the region. Now, the company will manufacture the petrol engines in the country itself and will talk about the project in the supplier summit.

The petrol version of the Toyota Innova Crysta will be powered by a 2.0-litre Dual VVT-i 16-valve DOHC unit, while the diesel version will come loaded with a 2.4-litre GD series engine with VNT intercooler. The Delhi NCR region is said to be a healthy market for the auto industry and contributes about 7% of collective sales across the nation. The MPV is very popular in the country and it has also received a 4-star rating for overall safety in ASEAN NCAP. The MPV will be priced in between INR 12-18 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi). It will rival against prominent MPVs like Honda Mobilio,Renault Lodgy and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
