Volkswagen Ameo to Get an Updated 1.5-litre TDI engine

Volkswagen Ameo, which had been revealed just before the day of 2016 Auto Expo, is continuously making an appearance at various platforms as its official launch that is due for early H2 2016. As per the sources, VW has been planning to replace the 1.6-litre engine with a 1.5-litre unit, which is already seen in other models of the brand like Polo GT and Vento. This new change could be offered to deliver better fuel efficiency that is the most generalised features in the Indian auto market.

Mechanically, with this change the new sub-4 motor sedan is said to produce an additional power of 2 Bhp along with higher torque measuring 10 Nm. Reports have also suggested that the mileage could be improved by 7 Percent with this 1.5-litre engine. When this diesel mill was first launched in 2014, it churned out 105 Bhp of power with Polo GT and Vento, while in the regular Polo it generated power of about 89 Bhp.

Coming to the gearbox, a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG unit could be mated to this new 1.5-litre TDI engine. Besides, the Volkswagen Ameo was initially revealed with a 1.2-litre three cylinder MPI that is fitted to five-speed manual transmission option, but it is expected to come paired with another AMT option later. The price is expected to be around INR 6.5 Lakhs to INR 10 Lakhs. When launched, it will face the competition with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest that fit in the similar range.
