Volkswagen Launches Its Mobility Service Company: MOIA

The Volkswagen Group has officially launched its new mobility services start-up, MOIA at the "Tech Crunch Disrupt" technology event in London on Monday. With its 13th sub-brand, the VW Group is moving ahead to become a global leader in providing sustainable mobility, informed by the German automaker to a press release.

As per the company saying, the MOIA stands for individual mobility for everyone that will enable ride via a ride-hailing mobile application of VW’s co-partner Gett. The Gett app users can instantly book for on-demand transportation, delivery, and logistic in more than 100 cities across the globe. Apart from offering individual mobility, it is also focusing to integrate pooling business in order to reduce unnecessary journeys, costing and improve the current road infrastructure. As expected, the first pilot projects in this field are slated to start in 2017.

"MOIA will help us gain a deeper understanding of new forms of mobility and how to make them even more attractive in future, to offer a much broader scope than at present and to tailor these services to suit very wide-ranging needs. Even though not everyone will still own a car in future, MOIA can help make everyone a customer of our company in some way or another", CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Matthias Müller, said.

Headquartered in Berlin, MOIA is VW’s dedicated venture that will commence its operations in the world of digitally networked mobility services, by the support of just 50 people and the team members are expected to extend near about 200 by the end of 2017.

Apart from this, the group is also aiming to gain a substantial revenue from this new venture by the year 2025. "MOIA is a stand-alone company under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, and will develop and market its own mobility services either independently or in partnership with cities and existing transport systems. In parallel, the Group brands will continue to move forward with their own services,” added the CEO of MOIA, Ole Harms.
