Earlier this year, leading German automaker Volkswagen displayed the next generation Passat sedan and Estate models and said that they would come to India as well. Now, the company has geared up for the car's next generation launch and by the mid 2015, we could see the new Passat running on the Indian roads. Talking about the changes, this new Passat has shrunk 2 mm, widened by 12 mm and lowered by 6 mm, thus making it 4,767 mm long, 1832 mm wide 1,456 mm tall. It also has increased wheelbase of 2,791 mm, exceeding by 79 mm in total. This new Passat would also be weighing 85 kg because of the steel and aluminum used in manufacturing of its body.
Talking about its engine, Volkswagen would be offering 10 engine trims to choose from, in Europe though. These engines will offer power outputs ranging from 120 PS to 280 PS. There would be an additional variant available to buy too, which gets GTE badge and has the claimed efficiency of 50 km/l.
The company has priced this new generation Passat at around INR 20 Lac for both, Estate and sedan model. Though the Indian price hasn't been out yet and it may get the same around value with increment up to INR 5 Lac.
