Yamaha Contemplating to Launch Electric 2 Wheelers in India

India that is being said to own 100 percent EVs for mobility by 2030, has made various domestic and international automajor to think over developing vehicles in the segment. One of them, the Japan based performance bikes manufacturer - Yamaha is also pondering to launch electric 2-wheelers in the country.

However, the EVs project from the brand is under consideration and they are looking at investment opportunities for developing power units and batteries for electric vehicles. In order to attain this, the company is doing a market study to find out launching possibilities of electric vehicles in the country. Other than this, the study will also reveal that the internal combustion engines could be replaced with the EVs or not.

Well considering current scenarios the EVs cannot supersede the internal combustion engines and it can also disrupt brand’s position in the country. Therefore, the brand is looking to move in the direction gradually with a thought of bringing much efficient internal combustion engines. As to set up EV space, there is a need for huge investment not only to develop power units and batteries but also to create that infrastructure needed for the electric two-wheelers. For all this, Yamaha will collaborate with some partners to invest that big needed amount.

Yamaha PES2

At the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Yamaha has exhibited two of its concepts like the PES2 and PED2 electric bikes. While the same models were also showcased to the global audience via a video earlier this year. Powered by a lithium-ion battery and an additional electric motor incorporated into the front wheel hub, the PES2 is a normal electric road bike. On the other hand, the PED2 is an off-roader.

The deadline 2030 for the complete electrification into vehicles via government will not only end up the need the fuel imports but also create a huge market of around $300 billion (approximately Rs. 19.50 lakh crores) for EV batteries manufacturer in the country.
