Microsoft has gone smarter with more thinner and lighter launch of a new tablet. It is the first Surface by the Redmond giant with such a light and thin profile ever, labeled Surface 3. The cheaper variant of this line-up to replace your laptop with its capability and portability.
This time, we will experience the full Windows 8.1 on this new tablet while the Surface RT and Surface 2 didn’t allow you to do the same. Now you can experience the full desktop applications with this Surface tablet. And for that reason, the Redmond people have decided to replace the old ARM processors with Intel Atom chip to make it a full-fledged Windows 8.1 powered device. The best part of it is the price tag which company has given to this device, just $499 which is much cheaper than the cost of Surface Pro 3.
Like its ancestor, it has also maintained the legacy by categorizing itself in a hybrid device – the perfect combination of laptop and tablet with Type cover and docking station. Pressure-sensitive pens are also offering by the manufacturer first time with a budget tablet. It seems quite identical in looks with Surface Pro 3, but after looking closely at the device, one can easily find the difference in thickness and weight with 0.34 inch and 1.37 pounds respectively. Logo has also got changed impressively.
The major change you can see easily in the Surface 3 is its 10.8-inch screen. This ClearType display is commendable to offer user-level comfort by providing HD (1920 x 1280 pixel) resolution maintain 3:2 aspect ratio of Surface Pro 3. While Surface 2 and Surface RT have 10.6-inch displays with an odd 16:9 aspect ratio. Design has remained unchanged with magnesium case and no cooling fans; even the kickstand is also here. Type Cover has replaced the Touch Cover in this new device which has physical button for typing instead of flat keys. However, you can save $130 by using the old Touch Cover if you owned already.

Preorder for the Surface 3 has begun from today and will go on sale on May 5th without keyboard dock. You can go for either 64GB variant having 2GB RAM or 128GB model having 4GB RAM. An LTE model will also be reaching soon at $599. It will be upgradable to Windows 10, and for that, you will have to wait for its official release.
