The delivery of the world’s cheapest smartphones, Freedom 251, got delayed by a week. Earlier the phone was supposed to go on sale from 30th June, now the delivery will finally begin from July 6.
As per the Founder and CEO Mohit Goel, Ringing Bells, they are trying to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gaining his support under the Make In India initiative. The company is ready with nearly 2 lakh units.
"In the meanwhile, we have prepared a letter requesting a meeting with our Prime Minister to pitch our case as a domestic smartphone maker which wishes to contribute towards 'Make in India' initiative," as further told by Goel.
The company is planning to organise a launch event in the capital one day after starting the delivery. Although Ringing Bell is facing a loss of around Rs 150 per handset, for which parts were imported from Taiwan, but is hoping to earn profits on volumes.
Freedom 251, no doubt is bringing loss to the company, but it is the project through which the dream of connecting rural and poor Indians will get fulfilled.
The Phone will be made available in two colours-Black and White, and displays the Indian Tricolour when switched on. It comes with centrally aligned rear camera and branding on the back panel with a speaker just alongside the branding. The smartphone has all the basic Google apps pre installed.
