OnePlus brings Android Lollipop based custom ROM for Indians [Video]

After ditching by the Cyanogen, the OnePlus had decided to develop its own custom ROM for its smartphones in India. Earlier in December, the manufacturer had announced about its plans to make own custom build based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop platform. Well, the maker had silently started working on the same and finally introduced the alpha version for OnePlus One smartphones.

After going through a controversial lawsuit for infringing the exclusive rights of Micromax deal with Cyanogen in India, the Company has announced its alpha custom ROM for Indian customers. It is available on maker’s online forum to download for free in 230MB size. However, you find nothing improved and new in features, simply looks like the stock Android Lollipop platform. As this is an alpha build, it will come bundled with lots of bugs. Some are already listed on the same forum and some will soon be found out to list.

OnePlus stated, "This build contains no extras beyond the stock features of AOSP Lollipop. It’s the base that we will continue to build upon, improve, and customize as we stabilize core functionalities on the latest firmware updates." The official forum of the company has also written about the instructions to follow, before downloading the custom ROM.

The Company has also arranged a contest for suggesting the name for its custom build. Company is claiming that more than 45k responses it has been received yet. The official name will be announced on January 11 as claimed by the OnePlus.

Looking at the issues in India, it hard to tell that whether this custom ROM’s OTA update will be sent only in India or the other markets will also get the benefit of the same. How this custom ROM will look like, you can see in this official video:
