First Android Go device of Xiaomi- the Redmi Go was launched in January 2019 and were ready for taking pre-orders in the Philippines from February. Now Xiaomi is bringing the smartphone in India and this can be said because the company is sending the invitations for Redmi Go launch in the country. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer for the ‘Go’ launch is sending media invites which will be held on 19 March 2019 in New Delhi at 12 pm IST. The Redmi Go comes under the affordable smartphone segment which under the hood houses the Snapdragon 425 SoC and comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB and 16GB of onboard storage.
The chief of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain also tweeted about the launch in Hindi by which we can say that the company will provide the customers with the smartphone who cannot afford an Android smartphone as this is the entry-level device. The tweet also has a link which directs to a microsite on Mi.com and that page has many titbits which indicate the Redmi Go smartphone that includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, Android Oreo (Go edition), and an HD display. The company also claims that the Google Assistant supports more than 20 regional languages including Hindi and a microSD card slot.
Aforementioned, the Redmi Go was launched in January this year and pre-orders started in February in the Philippines which carries a price sticker of PHP 3,990 which is around Rs 5,400 in terms of the Indian Currency. By this, we can say that the smartphone will be priced under Rs 5,000 in India. The Redmi 6A which is also an entry-level smartphone carries a price sticker of Rs 5,999.
The affordable Redmi Go sports a 5-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels along with 16:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 296ppi with 1000:1 contrast ratio. Under the hood, the Android Go carries the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC which clocks out at 1.4GHz, mated with the Adreno 308 GPU.
In terms of the storage, the Redmi Go comes in two variants i.e. 1 GB Of RAM along with 8GB and 16GB of onboard storage which can further be expanded via a microSD card slot up to 128GB. The smartphone will be available in two colour options- Black and Blue. The smartphone has a dual SIM slot (Nano).
In terms of the optics, the Redmi Go houses a single camera which includes an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1.12 micron pixel size, and has a 4-element lens along with a single LED flash for taking the picture in low-light. Features of the camera include HDR, burst mode, real-time filters, smart scene modes and can also record video at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution. At the front, the smartphone carries a 5MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and also supports HDR shots and beauty filters for selfies and video calling.
In terms of the connectivity, the smartphone includes 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi Direct, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. The position and navigation are done by GLONASS, GPS/ A-GPS, and BeiDou. The handset holds a capacity of 3,000mAh battery which the company claims can give 10 days standby time.
In terms of the sensors, the Redmi Go includes an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and proximity sensor. It weighs 137 grams and measures 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.32mm.
