YouTube New Ad Policy: No Ads On Channels With Less Than 10k Lifetime Views

The Google-owned Youtube, which provides free digital content to the users in the form of videos, has made changes to the existing ad policy. The new ad policy is aimed to discourage fraudulent Youtube channels from stealing content from other sources. As per the new policy, a channel will not be able to generate revenues until or unless their videos have generated 10,000 views. From now on, Ads will not appear on creators videos until they manage to hit this target, as YouTube believes that the 10,000 view figure is high enough to give it enough time to work out whether a channel is following the company's rules or not.

At the same time, the company doesn’t think the target is so daunting that it puts users off signing up to the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube’s vice president of product management, Ariel Bardin, wrote a blog post, "Today, more creators are making a living on YouTube than ever before". "However, with this growth, we’ve started seeing cases of abuse where great, original content is re-uploaded by others who try to earn revenue from it".

"In a few weeks, we’ll also be adding a review process for new creators who apply to be in the YouTube Partner Program," continued Mr. Bardin. "After a creator hits 10k lifetime views on their channel, we'll review their activity against our policies. If everything looks good, we'll bring this channel into YPP and begin serving ads against their content."

The latest move has been adopted by the YouTube after it was widely criticized in recent weeks, as ads from major brands were appearing alongside YouTube videos promoting extremist views, and generating revenue for the creators. The situation also led to the suspension of contracts by more than 250 companies with Google, and analysts predicted that the firm could lose up to $750 million as a result of this contract suspension. Last month YouTube had promised that it would crack down on hateful and derogatory content on its platform.
