Yamaha YZF R15 Version 3.0

What’s Good:

The Yamaha YZF-R15 version 3.0 that was a much-anticipated upgrade has finally been introduced in the Indian lineup at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. This new bike is a huge leap over the previous version almost in every aspect. The design language is all new, inspired by the current generation YZF-R1. It is aggressive and furthermore aerodynamic than the previous model. The bike now underpins revised Deltabox frame to accommodate wider swingarm. Also, the laden powertrain on it is an improved 155cc displacement unit with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation).

Power and Mileage:

The equipped powertrain in this Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 is all new with the increased displacement of 155cc as compared to 149cc of the earlier trim. Furthermore, the engine’s internal components such as throttle bodies, piston, connecting rod and more are also altered for churning out improved power and performance. Besides, the introduction of VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) that comprises two intake valve cams, each one for providing excellent performance in the different rev range. The spits out power and torque figures are 19.3PS at 10,000rpm and 15Nm respectively.

Handling and Riding:

With the underpinnings such as a revised Deltabox frame and new suspension, the Yamaha R15 V3.0 is something really different as it dips so quickly on the corners with an ease. Also, the fitment of an optional Metzeler tyre is an add-on to the rider’s confidence. While on the straight run the provided riding posture on the bike offers a more confident feel. In terms of riding the improved performance and more aggressive acceleration courtesy VVA makes it easy to pick up quickly this heavier trim than earlier.

Safety:

Based on a new chassis that is incorporated with the revised swingarm, the 2018 Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 is safer. It uses more promising suspension setup including bigger 41mm telescopic front fork and rear monoshock. For deceleration, single disc unit on both wheels are offered by the manufacturer.

Verdict:

With this hard to fault styling, the new bike looks smashing, especially in this red-grey colour combination. Build quality and fit-finish levels are good. The most important bike’s ride quality is outstanding that can easily throb heart of first time user. Priced at Rs 1.25 lakh ex-showroom, the R15 version 3.0 is a value for money option in the segment.
