SAGMart Reviews on Bajaj Dominar 400 Twin Channel ABS
What’s good:
The Dominar is considered as the new beginning for the Chakan based manufacturer. Earlier than this, the automaker not only generated volume but also became a well-known name across the country or outside, via its performance-oriented commuter, the Pulsar that has a wide range of motorcycles depending upon the displacement and bike category. In terms of Dominar, the D400 is the most powerful offering rolled out by the bike maker since now. It shares 373cc motor of the KTM Duke 390 but with a host of revision. The company introduced its patented triple spark technology-DTS-i, Also it uses SOHC unit as against to a DOHC system of the KTM. Besides being using single cylinder unit, the motorcycle is capable of producing top end performance and responds really well in a single twist of the throttle even in the mid-range.
Power and Mileage:
As mentioned above, the incorporated 373cc powertrain makes the Dominar 400, the most powerful bike in the Bajaj stable. The engine is sourced from the KTM 390 Duke though undergone through a host of refinements in order to keep the price of the bike in check. Using the brand’s patented triple spark technology-DTS-i, the engine has to command over four valves via a single camshaft. Revised to a higher degree, the engine is capable of returning performance in churned out figures- 35PS at 8,000 rpm and 35Nm at 6,500 rpm. Furthermore, the mid range performance of the vehicle makes it easy to overtake on the highway easily.
- 373cc Engine Displacement
- Power: 35PS at 8,000 rpm
- Torque: 35Nm at 6,500 rpm
- Six Speed Gearbox
- 0-100kmph: 8.4 Secs
- Fuel Mileage: above 30Kmpl
Handling and Riding:
The slightly rear placed footpegs and wide handlebars offer a semi-sporty seating position that is pretty comfortable even in the long run. At the corners, the MRF rubber provides adequate grip, however, at the sharp turn, it takes efforts owing to the long wheelbase and high kerb weight to change the direction of the bike. The presence of features such as disc brakes in association with dual channel ABS provides better control on this agile motorcycle. Altogether, the presence of suspension setup including 43mm telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock with adjustability give outstanding riding comfort.
Safety:
Being the fastest beast from the Chakan based two-wheeler manufacturer, it is required to arm this monster with the host of safety gears. The automaker did the same by equipping it with prominent suspension setup and biggest in segment front disc brake of size 320mm and a rear disc. Furthermore, the motorcycle gets the advanced safety of dual channel ABS. Also, the bike gets all-LED headlamp setup with AHO.
Verdict:
Aggressively priced at INR 1.36 lakh for the standard variant and INR 1.5 lakh for the ABS version, the Dominar 400 is a performance-oriented muscle hunk. In terms of features, it is laden with almost all the top self-attributes. All in all, it is an affordable performance bike in an all-new avatar that will impact as similar to the Pulsar on the Bajaj lovers.
