SAGMart Reviews on Ather 450
What’s Good:
Ather 450 is a flagship electric scooter designed and developed by a Bengaluru based start-up founded by two friends from IIT Madras. Other than going by its name Ather which means “pure air” in Greek translates to green and clean technology, the scooter packs a host of state-of-the-art features including touch-screen instrument panel with readouts effective range, remote diagnostics, satellite navigation and much more. All in all, it is not like digital instrument console on conventional electric scooters in India but boasts of several astonishing features.
- Touch-Screen Instrument Cluster
- Onboard AI System
- Cloud Connectivity
- GPS
- Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)
Power and Mileage:
Powered by a BLDC motor, the Ather 450 is quick to go the moment you pull the throttle. It uses the peak torque of 20.5Nm generated by the motor powered by a battery setup. In terms of performance, the scooter with faint hum and muted whirr quickly surpass the conventional scooter and commuters with a 110cc engine.
- 2.4 kWh Lithium-ion
- BLDC Motor
- Power: 7.24 bhp
- Range: 75km/charge
- Charging Time: 2 hrs 40 min
- 0-40kmph Sprint: 3.9S
Riding and Handling:
The Ather 450 is based on a precision machined chassis made up of steel at front and Aluminium at the rear. It suspends over a telescopic front and a symmetrically mounted progressive rear monoshock which confirms a smooth and comfortable ride on the go. While in terms of handling, it is neutral and balanced, also did not feel unsettled whether tackling with broken patches, u-turns and speed breakers.
Safety:
Ather 450 can cruise at the top speed of 80kmph. At such speed, the underpinnings such as its chassis, armed suspension supports easy handling on broken patches, over speed breakers and traffic penetration. However, for the safety concern, there are disc brakes at both wheels which ensures rider safety on the scooter:
- 200mm Disc Upfront
- 190mm Rear Disc
- 160mm Ground Clearance
- 12-Inch Tubeless Tyres
- Telescopic Forks
Verdict:
Priced at INR 24,750 (on-road Bengaluru), the Ather 450 is the most expensive electric scooter available in the Indian two-wheeler industry. However, this pricing includes several significant aspects like GST, road tax, registration, smart card fee and insurance. Also, the first thousand-odd customers are availed with facilities such as a charging cable, standard installation and one year of subscription free for the Ather One plan as well. With these number of benefits, this AI supported smart electric scooter is a better option considering the future of mobility. However, as of now, the scooter meant only for buyers with heavy pockets.
