2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift: What We Know So Far

The fresh updates of next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift have recently touched the online, giving a close idea about how the production version would look like. Heavily camouflaged test-mule has been caught several times, and now reports suggest that the Japanese auto-giant will reveal the 2017 Swift in October globally.

The upcoming Swift will be globally showcased at Paris Motor Show in October this year, a report says. The new Swift will go under several updates over the current model, but the only question raised is how different will it be. Well, if we consider some emerging reports, the 2017 Swift will be slightly longer, lower and wider, while a lot lighter over the current third generation Swift, as it shares the lightweight chassis with company’s recent launch hatch Baleno.

The company believes that the next-gen Swift will also be more of just a hatch as there is space in the global portfolio for a performance based compact car.

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

According to Suzuki UK sales and marketing director, Dale Wyatt stated that the recently launched Baleno takes care of the rational end of Suzuki's small car range. This has allowed the brand to make the next-gen Swift much more emotional and expressive, reports Auto Express.

The reports also suggest that the 2017 Swift will be offered with three engine options for the global market. The first one is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder Booster-jet engine which is also going to make its India debut with Baleno RS soon, the second one is a 1.2-litre K-series naturally aspired engine, while the last one, a 1.4-litre Booster-jet engine will be introduced later as the mill of the Swift Sport. Besides the above first two powertrain options, the India-spec 2017 Swift will also be offered with a 1.3-litre diesel engine.

First launched in 2004, the Japanese automaker has sold over 50 lakh units of Swift till April 2016, reports. The next-gen 2017 Swift will be built at company’s recently inaugurated Gujarat facility in India.
