Renault Unveils The Alaskan: Its First Global Pick-Up

Renault has finally introduced its all-new Alaskan pick-up truck in full production form. The new Alaskan is built upon the same platform that used by Nissan’s Navara NP300, while its design ideology is quite similar to its concept showcased in September last year.

By introducing the all new one-tonne pick-up truck, the french automaker is making its fresh entry in the LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) segment. The Alaskan will first go on sale in South American market by the end of this year along with the other two markets that have to be confirmed at a later date.

The design of new Alaskan features almost similar to its prototype except only a few small changes to its exteriors such as new taillamps and larger exterior mirrors. At the front, it gets a large radiator grille and muscular line on the bonnet along with the C-shaped LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights).

Inside of this small truck, it gets a 5-inch TFT infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, while in some markets, it offers a 7-inch touchscreen with integrated satellite navigation along with the 360-degree camera view in order to increase outside visibility.

Featuring a high ground clearance of 230 mm and can tow trailers of up to 3.5 tonne, the Alaskan is being promoted as a rugged off-roader and work utility vehicle.

Under the hood, a 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel DCi engine will be offered with two power options i.e. 160 hp and 190 hp. For several markets, a 2.5-litre petrol unit with 160 hp power output and a 2.5-litre diesel with the power output range between 160 hp and 190 hp will also be offered. The buyers can also choose between a 6-Speed manual and a 7-Speed automatic transmission along with the two and four wheel drive options.

The french automaker is also monitoring the Indian LCV market closely, and might launch Alaskan in the country on sometime later. The price of the all-new pick-up has yet-to-be announced, however, it is expected to come with the same price tag as of the NP300 Navara.
